Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA)
The VCAA has been a long term Binary Blue client.
We have participated in numerous panels on delivering VET VCE multimedia and interactive digital media education to secondary schools across Victoria.
Recently, we conducted a consultation with the Interactive Digital Media Industry to advise teachers and trainers on "the scope and depth of the underpinning knowledge and skills of each unit of competence in the scored Units 3 and 4 sequence, according to standard business practice and industry expectations". See Industry Advice
Our most important VCAA project is the development each year of the VET VCE IDM examination, which we first produced in 1997.
This is the only VCE examination conducted entirely on computer.
Generally, some 1200 students sit the exam across 60 computer exam centres.
We develop the exam on all operating systems, which is a challenge. The examination has multiple choice, short answer and practical sections. The multiple choice and short answer are saved automatically, and at the end of the exam, all the student data files are collected and sent back to the VCAA for processing.
This year, we developed an examination reader for the examiners where they can record their marks on computer. Their data is saved to a USB chip and processed by the VCAA.
It's a very challenging project because we have to ensure there are no technical failures.
