AIRAH Ammonia courses

Ammonia is used in refrigeration as a refrigerant because it does not have environmental effects that other older refrigerants had. However, if released to the air, it is very hazardous to people in the near vicinity.

AIRAH commissioned Binary Blue for two training resources:

1. Ammonia Safety Awareness. The training is aimed at non-technical staff working in an ammonia refrigeration worksite and what to do if there is an ammonia leak.

The resource consisted of a Trainee Workbook and PowerPoint presentation for face-to-face training.

2. Energy Efficiency for Industrial Ammonia Refirgeration. This course is aimed at the non-engineer to deliver energy efficiencies when operating a large industrial refrigeration system. These facilities can be very large; large enough to accommodate fork trucks. Energy efficiencies relate to the shell of the store, technologies such as variable speed compressors and better controls over the operation.

The resource consisted of a Trainee Workbook, Trainer Guide and PowerPoint. Binary Blue worked with Stefan Jensen to develop the content. The process was to identify the high order topics, then interview Stefan over the details and write this up for Stefan to review.

Both resources will be completed by February 2012.
